Primary 3 pupils are exploring the important topic of ‘staying safe and sound’, and their learning experience has been greatly enriched by visits from local safety professionals.
One of the special visitors was FFC Donaghy from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS). As a call handler, she shared insights about her crucial role in prioritising emergency calls, directing fire crews, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly. The pupils were fascinated to learn about the behind-the-scenes work that keeps everyone safe during emergencies.
Another exciting visit was from Mr. Percival, a paramedic with the air ambulance service. He works with the only air ambulance in Northern Ireland, making his job incredibly busy and vital. The children had the unique opportunity to act out the different roles of the helicopter crew, including the pilot, paramedic, doctor, and patient. This hands-on experience helped them understand the teamwork and skills required to save lives in critical situations.
These visits have not only educated the pupils about safety but also inspired them by showcasing the dedication and bravery of those who work tirelessly to protect our community.
