Look what we’ve ‘bin’ up to!

Our Eco-Agency scooped second prize and £300.00 for their efforts in the ‘Wheelie Big Challenge’, a competition run by Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful, Eco-Schools and supported by the Belfast City Council. Four of our P6 Eco-Agents impressed the panel of judges with our actions to dispose of waste more efficiently, effectively and ethically.

Following waste audits, P7 eco-agents presented a ‘dragon’s den’ style pitch to Mr. Keenan. As a result, food caddies were issued to each class and staff rooms, and the recycling of a lot more materials was permitted. Awareness raising assemblies were held and regular bin checks were carried out to keep everyone on track.

We managed to reduce the amount of food waste going into the general waste bins by a staggering 96% and the amount of dry recyclable material going into the general waste bins by 83%! The Eco-Agency are full of ideas and are very much looking forward to investing their prize money into other eco-projects.
