Some P2 pupils ditched their stabilisers in a bid to ride their bikes independently for the first time. Seats were lowered, and pedals were removed by Beverley, our Sustrans Active Travel Officer, as pupils learnt to ‘scoot’ along using both their feet. Once confident about moving forward, using giant steps and kangaroo hops, one pedal was replaced.
As pupils propelled themselves along, finding their innate balance, it wasn’t long before the second pedal was attached. Most of the pupils achieved their goal and others were very close. It was a joy to witness the children reach this milestone, especially for those proud family members who came along to watch.
