Top up from the Tap!

St. Anne’s have pledged to reduce single use plastics and become a refill school! Eco-agents met with Anna from NI Water to discuss the impact of plastic pollution on our world, particularly our marine life. The Eco-agency were then given the task of educating all the other pupils and raising awareness. They even met with the Chairpersons of the PTA, Mrs Mc Canney and Mrs O Hare to get them onboard.

Did you know that in the UK, 7.7 billion plastic water bottles are used each year, with the average person now using 150 plastic water bottles every year – that’s more than 3 a week? Many are discarded and end up polluting our rivers and seas. Staggeringly, if just 1 in 10 was refilled, just once a week, we would save around 340 million plastic bottles a year.

All pupils were issued with re-usable plastic bottles to encourage them to top from the tap and avoid buying bottled water. Will you join us in our mission? ‘Refill for free and clean up the sea.’
