Making a model lung using balloons, straws and plastic bottles, helped our P5 pupils understand how their respiratory system works. Did you know: the lungs are the only organ that can float on water? when our brain senses a shortage of oxygen, it triggers us to take a long deep breath or to yawn?’ when we exhale we lose water? (Cue: gasp of amazement)
