‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’ by Giles Andreae is a story about Gerald, a giraffe, who doesn’t know how to tango or quick step and as a result is teased by the other animals. With the help of a wise and kind friend, Gerald discovers his rhythm, dancing to his own tune.
Carrying the important and universal messages of acceptance and self-belief, this story provided a springboard for the pupils in P2OC to explore the things they are good at and those things that they find difficult now. They compiled a list of things that they can’t do – ‘YET’ and are working hard to achieve these goals! Pupils were also inspired to create their own illustrations of ‘Gerald the Giraffe’.
