P4 Bookworms Furrow in the Garden

P4

It has been a busy term in the P4 garden. Our wonderful PTA provided two new raised beds. Once assembled, the P4 year group set to work planting onions, garlic, daffodils and tulips. Leaves were collected and bagged to make leaf mould for the raised beds which will be dug into the soil later in the year.  Ripe apples were picked from the trees and used to bake some delicious apple pie.

This term also saw the arrival of two wormeries, courtesy again of our Parent Teacher Association. A  practical workshop delivered by Stephen Mc Ilroy from ‘The Wormworks’ informed the pupils about the importance of worms in soil and provided advice on how to look after our new recycling mini-beasts.

Finally three bird boxes, kindly crafted by Miss Daly’s father, were mounted on the trees close to the P4 garden. Hopefully they will provide a nesting space for some feathered friends in the springtime.
