Trading Places

The Young Enterprise ‘Our World’ Programme introduced P6 pupils to important aspects of global trade, helping them understand that just as friends, families and communities rely on each other, so do the nations of the world. The activities ‘Wearing the World’ and ‘The Long Distance meal’ allowed pupils to examine a range of imported goods, recognizing evidence of global trade.

Through a trading game, they learnt how less developed countries interact with and rely on more developed countries, exploring issues such as debt, exchange and fair-trading. Ellie, the Young Enterprise facilitator and Declan, a volunteer from the business sector, both commented on how spirited and serious the pupils were in their approach – some business tycoons in the making.
